A *postdoc* position is immediately available at Case Western Reserve University in the structural biology lab of Dr. Focco van den Akker. The successful candidate will use structural biology and other approaches to uncover new *therapeutic opportunities* for developing *antibiotics* targeting the bacterial cell wall machinery. Bacterial proteins of interest are beta-lactamases, penicillin binding proteins, lytic transglycosylases, and others. For additional information, please see recent publications (Papp-Wallace et al. This project is highly collaborative involving academic collaborators, several pharmaceutical companies, and clinician-researchers. In addition to protein crystallography, the project involves enzymatic structure-function studies, biophysical characterization for compound screening/testing, and drug design efforts. Applications are solicited from highly motivated and creative individuals who can drive this multifaceted project. The applicant should have a Ph.D. and experience in either molecular biology or protein biochemistry (experience in protein crystallography and/or medicinal chemistry is not required but is desirable). The position is open immediately and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
