Hi Marian, If you need to change the desktop the best option is to install that Linux flavor from scratch using a live image.
I personally prefer LXDE and it works fine with stereo and I don't have the composite extension enabled in my xorg.conf. Look at the /var/log/Xorg.0.log file and see if you can figure out the problem. If the graphics system is not working, use <ctrl><alt><F2> to open a non-graphics shell on your PC, and login as you.
