Dear all,
First of all, many apologies for the non-scientific off-topic message
but this mailing list is a good way of reaching our many e-mail
correspondents.
We have had strong indications that for several days over the last week
or so, Gmail/Google mail has been classifying all e-mails from Global
Phasing as spam. If you use Gmail to correspond with us or subscribe to
any of our mailing lists, we suggest that you check your spam folder for
any messages from us. There is a chance of course that this message will
go into Gmail users' spam folders too, so if you know that any of your
colleagues are using Gmail for scientific correspondence, we would be
grateful if you would let them know.
If you find any messages from us that have been classified as spam, we
would be very grateful if in the first instance you mark them as "not
spam" in the Gmail webmail interface, rather than just whitelisting
*@globalphasing.com addresses. I think that reporting mis-classified
spam e-mails in this way will help to correct Gmail's spam filtering
data for all users when this kind of thing happens. OTOH adding an
e-mail domain to your whitelist doesn't contribute to improving the spam
filtering for anyone else.
Of course, if you do find genuine spam that is pretending to come from
Global Phasing, please don't mark that as "not spam". Feel free to
forward such emails to me (preferably in raw form with complete headers,
also known as "message source") and I'll try to look into it.
I have tried to the best of my ability to find out the cause of this,
without success. I have used a variety of mail delivery analysis tools,
and investigated our internet reputation without finding any signs of
anything going wrong. I also routinely collect DMARC delivery reports.
Over the last couple of weeks, the DMARC data that I have received from
Google has indicated a possible problem with just one single email message.
Many thanks for your cooperation, and apologies for the noise. If anyone
has any comments, please reply to me personally, and I will summarise to
the list if appropriate.
Regards,
Peter Keller.
