We have two postdoctoral research positions opening at the SGC, Goethe
University Frankfurt.
Position 1 - Structural biologist (protein crystallography): We are looking
for a highly motivated and qualified biochemist with experience in protein
purification and characterization and expertise protein crystallography for
the development of specific inhibitors for novel E3 ligases
("Structure-based discovery of small molecule inhibitors for novel E3
ligases"). You have a master degree (or equal) as well as a PhD in biology,
chemistry biochemistry, biotechnology or similar. You have profound
knowledge in molecular biology and biochemistry and experience in protein
crystallography. Practical experience in biophysical methods and experience
of working abroad is a plus. You are comfortable to work within an
interdisciplinary team of international scientists with different
personalities and cultures. Fluency in English is a prerequisite. You are
passionate about your work and have a proactive attitude.
Position 2 - - Biochemist/Biophysicist (assay development): We are looking
for a highly motivated and qualified biochemist with experience in protein
purification and characterization as well as expertise in the development of
biochemical assays for the development of specific inhibitors for novel E3
ligases ("Discovery and characterisation of small molecule inhibitors for
novel E3 ligases"). You have a PhD in biology, chemistry biochemistry,
biotechnology or similar. You have profound knowledge in molecular biology,
biochemical and cellular technologies and experience in assay development.
Practical experience in high-throughput technologies and liquid handling and
experience of working abroad is a plus. You are comfortable to work within
an interdisciplinary team of international scientists with different
personalities and cultures. Fluency in English is a prerequisite. You are
passionate about your work and have a proactive attitude.
Both exciting positions are embedded in an interdisciplinary research
environment at in the Structural Genomics Consortium (SGC) at the Johann
Wolfgang Goethe University Frankfurt am Main. The SGC is a not-for-profit,
public-private partnership encompassing 8 pharmaceutical companies that
conducts pre-competitive research to facilitate the discovery of new
medicines. Based at several additional international universities
(Stockholm, Toronto, Chapel Hill, Campinas) the SGC's work contributes to
new hypotheses in understanding and treating human disease, and the
subsequent identification of new targets for drug discovery. The SGC is
committed to Open Science, sharing knowledge, data and reagents, which has
led to a collaborative network of more than 250 international partners. The
project is part of the Target 2035 initiative, an international science
federation with the goal to develop small molecule inhibitors for the human
proteome. The first step is the IMI project EUbOPEN, an Innovative Medicines
Initiative (IMI) funded project, which aims to generate specific chemical
probes and assemble an open access chemogenomic library of well annotated
compounds covering roughly 1,000 different proteins and test them in
biological assays.
Interested candidates are encouraged to submit a single PDF application
including i) a cover letter stating which position and career interests, ii)
CV and iii) contact addresses of at least two referees. The closing date is
