Within the framework of the Collaborative Research Center 900 and the ‘COVID-19
Forschungsnetzwerk Niedersachsen’ (COFoNi) we invite applications for a

Postdoctoral research associate

to work in the group of Thomas Krey, Institute of Biochemistry at the
Universität zu Lübeck (UzL; Germany). We are mainly interested in the
biochemical and structural characterization of viral glycoproteins and their
roles during the viral replication cycle (mainly virus entry and interaction
with the host’s immune system). The major scientific focus will be initially
the glycoproteins of the Hepatitis C virus and the β-Coronavirus spike protein.
The project will actively build on our previous experience with the structural
and functional characterization of glycoproteins (e.g., Fedry et al., Cell,
2017; Fedry et al., PLoS Biol, 2018; Krey et al., PLoS Path, 2013; Meola et
al., J Virol, 2015; Vasiliauskaite et al., mBio, 2017).
The position is available for an initial period of 19 months with a possibility
to be extended.

We:
• Are fascinated by viral glycoproteins and their interactions with
neutralizing antibodies
• Are structural biologists with a special interest in immune profiling of
human antibody repertoires and single cell sequencing of human B cells
• Use a wide range of methodologies including but not limited to protein
biochemistry, X-ray crystallography, cryo electron microscopy and single cell
Next Generation Sequencing (NGS)
• Offer state-of-the-art equipment in protein expression, purification and
crystallization
• Provide an international, interdisciplinary, exciting and stimulating
scientific environment at the UzL
• Have access to
- Ample beamtime at third generation synchrotron X-ray sources
- The cryo-EM facility at CSSB Hamburg with high-end cryo electron microscopes
- A state-of-the-art FACS facility on-campus with single-cell sequencing
instrumentation
- Excellent biophysical instrumentation (Surface Plasmon resonance, SEC-MALLS,
Nanoliterplate based DLS, ITC)

You:
• Have a PhD in structural biology, biochemistry, virology or a related
scientific area
• Are interested in neutralizing antibodies either as therapeutic tool or as
basis for informed vaccine design
• Have experience in protein purification, structural biology techniques
(preferably X-ray crystallography), antibody biology or immune repertoire
profiling
• Enjoy working both on your own and as part of an international and
interdisciplinary team
• Like to visit international conferences and present your data
• Are a creative and enthusiastic individual committed to solve problems

Please send a cover letter, CV, relevant certificates as well as names, e-mail
addresses and telephone numbers of at least two references in a single PDF to
Thomas Krey ([email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>).
