Dear all, I am looking for a candidate who wants to start a post-doc research in neutron/x-ray protein crystallography on improving and understanding enzymes that digest polymers from microplastics in the ocean. These enzymes might be a key to clean up the oceans from microplastics, but also to make efficient use of the plastic deposited in thousands of land-fill waste deposits. In the course of the project I would like to develop a Raman/Microspectroscopy set-up at my instrument BIODIFF at FRM II in Garching. This will help to check whether the polymer is present as substrate in the enzyme or not.
The position is a two year prestigious European Union funded Marie Skłodowska-Curie fellowship which requires writing a common grant proposal (5-10 pages) until 18th of January 2023. The decision will be made until end of April 2023 and the successful candidate may start between May 2023 and September 2023. A finished PhD (or 4 years of research work in a lab) and some knowledge on scattering techniques are also required. The call is explicitly also open for non-EU membership countries.
