In a recent structure we found strong electron density between a closely
positioned Arginine and a Lysine residue. The residues-with their positively
charged moieties-were facing directly towards each other-which we found
perplexing. The density couldn't be resolved by a water molecule, and looked to
be a covalent linkage between nitrogens in the sidechains of the two residues
(probably mediated by glyoxal). Has anyone else ever seen anything like this?
Thanks
Celia
