4 posts available as Early Career Research Fellow - The Physics of Life and Quantitative Biology
Fixed term for a period of 5 years, to transfer to open ended lectureship Faculty of Science School of Biosciences & Department of Physics & Astronomy University of Sheffield Applications by 3rd November 2023 The Faculty Research Fellowship scheme aims to provide outstanding scientists, who have the potential to become leaders in their chosen field, with the opportunity to build an independent research career. Our ‘Physics of Life and Quantitative Biology’ initiative will create a critical mass of researchers to build on Sheffield’s strong track record in this area. The Research Fellows will work at the interface of bioscience and physics in areas ranging from soft matter physics through quantitative methods and approaches for studying living systems, to the physical principles of how living things function, and encompassing elements of, e.g., mechanobiology and energy capture biology. The Fellows’ research areas will be strongly cross-disciplinary, requiring knowledge, understanding and approaches from both physical and biological disciplines. The Research Fellows will have access to the world class facilities in the Department of Physics and Astronomy and the School of Biosciences, including the Biophysical Imaging Centre for atomic force microscopy, mechanobiology and optical instrument development, the Light Microscopy Facility for confocal and super-resolution optical microscopy, the Cryo-Electron Microscopy Facility and the Near Field Optical Spectroscopy Facility for nano-scale infra-red spectroscopic imaging. This fellowship is fixed term for a period of 5 years with the successful candidate transferring to an open ended position at Lecturer level on successful completion of the fellowship For further details see https://www.sheffield.ac.uk/jobs Job reference: UOS038458 Prof. Per A.
