Dear colleagues, We are delighted to invite you to the 27th Congress and General Assembly of the International Union of Crystallography (IUCr), taking place 11th–18th August 2026 in Calgary, Canada. As part of the scientific programme, we are organising MS024: Accelerating crystallography: high-throughput methods and automation, scheduled for Thursday, 14th August.
Given your expertise and contributions to high-throughput structural biology, fragment screening, and/or automation, we would be very pleased if you would consider submitting an abstract to present your recent work. Submissions can be made via the conference portal. Abstract submission: https://event.fourwaves.com/iucr-2026/submission <https://event.fourwaves.com/iucr-2026/submission>Deadline: 15th February 2026 (please check the site for any updates) ________________________________ About MS024: Accelerating crystallography: high-throughput methods and automation, scheduled for Thursday, 14th August. Sponsoring Commission: Crystallographic Computing Co-sponsoring Commission: Biological Macromolecules Supporting Commission: Synchrotron and XFEL Radiation The automation of structure determination pipelines has revolutionized crystallography by streamlining the process from data collection to refinement. Advances in computing and artificial intelligence have enabled the development of sophisticated algorithms that automate critical tasks such as data processing, phasing, model building, and refinement, significantly reducing human intervention and improving throughput. These automated pipelines provide real-time feedback during data collection, allowing researchers to make informed decisions, optimize experimental parameters, and ensure high-quality data acquisition. Case studies demonstrate the effectiveness of these systems in various experimental settings, highlighting improvements in data accuracy, reproducibility, and efficiency. The integration of machine learning and cloud-based solutions further enhances the adaptability and scalability of these pipelines, making them accessible to a wider research community. This microsymposium will discuss the latest innovations in automated structure determination, fragment screening, the challenges associated with automation, and future prospects for fully autonomous crystallographic workflows. ________________________________ Our goal is to bring together leaders developing cutting-edge methods and those applying these tools in challenging biological contexts. We would very much welcome a contribution from you or your group. If you have any questions about the session or whether your work would be a good fit, please feel free to get in touch. We encourage you to register for the IUCr meeting and join what promises to be an exciting and forward-looking session. We hope to see you in Calgary and look forward to receiving your abstract.
