Dear Friends and Colleagues,

as part of the IUCr conference in Calgary (https://www.iucr2026.org/), two
microsymposia will be held on 18 August 2026 in honour of George Sheldrick:

*George Sheldrick's contributions to crystallographic computing have left
an indelible mark on the field. Sheldrick's innovations have been
instrumental in advancing structural science through the development of
SHELX, a suite of programs that revolutionized chemical structure
determination and was extended to applications in mineralogy, with the
flexibility to handle twinning and disorder, and in biology, notably
experimental phasing and refinement. This special session will celebrate
his legacy, featuring talks on the impact of his algorithms, the evolution
of structure refinement, and the influence of SHELX in modern
crystallographic workflows. Colleagues and researchers who have built upon
his work will discuss past achievements, ongoing developments, and future
directions inspired by his contributions.*

Invited speakers are John Helliwell, Manchester University, Stefanie
Freitag-Pohl, Durham University, Anna Lübben, Bruker, Madhumati Sevvana,
Sanofi, Soheil Mahmoudi, Universität Wien and Qinjung Ma, Institute of
Oceanology, Qingdao.

We cordially invite you to submit an abstract for one of the two MS. The
deadline for abstract submission is 15 February.

Hoping to see you at both microsymposia,

Isabel and Regine

Please, consider contacting us if you would like to contribute but are
excluded by the incompatibility or abstracts across sessions in the IUCr
meeting. We may work out inclusive solutions the organisers can agree to.
