if you use(d) autoPROC [1], you could run with
autoPROC_StaranisoMaskedMtzKeep=yes (on the "process ..." or "aP_scale
..." command-line).

PS: One clarification in terminology - STARANISO is neither using a
resolution cutoff (which would be an isotropic sphere) nor an
ellipsoidal cutoff (which would be defined by three diffraction
limits along principal axis directions). The anisotropic cut-off
surface can have any shape, resulting in a reciprocal space mask
that is then applied to the unmerged data. The jiffy at [2] might
help visualising this better.
