Note that the BASIC compiler in OpenQM (and Scarlet DME) is written in BASIC - it outputs p-code. If you're into Pick at all (or curious to see how it works), grab a copy of Scarlet DME (linked in my sig) and root around in the GPL.BP directory - all the system tools code is in there.
