That was probably PKTDRV. I remember when FTP released that crazy, then
Novell came out with ODIPKT and life was better but you could still run
PKTDRV apps with an appropriate shim program
Best replacement cards would be a 3c503, 3c509, and not the 3c501. I
think there were pktdrv drivers for the NE200 and the Intel EtherExpress
and EtherExpress/16. And you could run an NE200 in an 8 bit slot.

You'll need a packet driver for the new card.
Then "just" replace the drivers. And probably adapt some config files.
I have used "ftp software" IP implementation for DOS before. Long ago.
Maybe I can dig out some documentation for it.
