Hi all,

I've got a collection of IBM 4683 point-of-sale equipment that I've been
working on restoring and documenting this year. One of the planar boards in
this collection is bad, and I'm trying to figure out what exactly is bad on it.
Of course, every part on the board is marked with IBM's house part numbers.
Does anyone have a better cross-reference list than what's on Bitsavers? Using
that list I was only able to cross-reference the 74xx TTL chips on the board,
none of the active chips.

From my understanding of IBM hardware in 1986 and reading what few technical
reference manuals still exist, I have a pretty good idea of what -should- be on
the board, I just can't prove what's on the board:
- Intel 80286 CPU
- ~1MB of RAM (probably SRAM; not sure if the RAM bank is parity)
- Dallas DS1220Y NVRAM (the only non-IBM labeled part on the board)
- Big UV-erasable Intel chip (purple ceramic, almost certainly an 8042 or 8051)
- Two additional Intel chips next to the UV chip (serial UARTs? Other MCS glue?
they have different IBM P/Ns)
- A couple of Hitachi chips, I suspect these are SRAM chips for the
microcontroller section
- Two 2716 EPROMs (hi byte and lo byte BIOS ROMs - I was able to confirm this
from an arcade repair forum thread; ROMs were dumped and appear to have dumped
OK)
- Two or three large ASICs (One is manufactured by OKI, the other two have
permanently glued heatsinks)

I will get the IBM P/Ns later tonight... currently toiling away in the day job
mines...
