I think having the INSTALL files makes sense - especially if the directions
are going to change a lot over time. A pointer to the wiki probably won't
be very useful if you're trying to install an older release. I presume the
wiki would only contain installation instructions for the latest version.

Perhaps these files are something that would be created as part of the
release process though. Copy and reformat the wiki text to be included in
the release archive rather than committing them to git.
