I totally agree, I seriously doubt this code ever worked in the state it 
is in currently. I suspect that vendors made a lot of the same patches I 
made and you just submitted and never bothered to send them upstream.


I see a lot of the same type of code I had to patch to make this thing 
work at all on ARM.
It's crashing for me too in pretty much the same spots on SPARC now so I 
think I will do a sweep through the code and do some more changes 
similar to my other patches for dtcreate. It might take me a while 
though since I have work that I have to deal with first before I have 
the time.

if you want to continue working on this be my guest though. I found that 
gdb (at least on ARM) would be totally useless for a backtrace after it 
corrupted memory. so I ended up resorting to ltrace to guess where in 
the code to set breakpoints.
