Dear CDE developers, I have previously written to the list to report some problems with the handling of daylight saving time in dtcm. I would like to report another anomaly with dtcm. My system is using Slackware Linux 13 (Intel 32bit).
My timezone is Europe/Paris (CET) and the current time is UTC+1. I have entered an event that is recurring every Thursday at 2pm in dtcm. I have noticed that for March 6, the event is indeed appearing at 2pm (that is 1pm in UTC). However, for March 13, the event appears at 3pm (which is still 1pm in UTC). So dtcm is switching to daylight saving time (DST) between these 2 dates. According to the web site: http://www.timeanddate.com/time/dst/2014a.html it is indeed today that the United States Canada and Mexico are switching to DST. However, in the European Union, the switch to DST is going to occur only on March 30. Here is the callog entry: 23 and 8 respectively represent the UTC times at which the event starts/stops. (add "20131205T130000Z" key: 69 hashedattributes: ((3 "0") (5 "20131201T184652Z") (8 "20131205T140000Z") (12 "20131201T184652Z") (15 "edmond@[...]") (18 "W1 #52") (20 "24:69:edmond@[...]") (23 "20131205T130000Z") (24 "2304") (25 "-//XAPIA/CSA/SUBTYPE//NONSGML Subtype Appointment//EN") (26 "[Recurring Event]") (28 "0") (29 "1") )) The timezone settings in dtcm are Time Zone = My Time (CET -1 CEST). Somehow, this indicates that in dtcm the European Union time zone is mapped to UTC+1 or UTC+2 according to the rules used in North America. I have not been able to locate the problem, but the file timezone.c contains various comment lines indicating that DST will not be handled correctly. I am currently using cde-2.2.0c, but I have successfully compiled cde-2.2.1 yesterday. I suspect that the timezone problem is still present in the new version, but I need to run the 2.2.1 version to confirm it. Do I need to remove the previous version by rm -rf /usr/dt before I install the new one by installCDE -s ? Obviously, these problems with the time of recurring events changing as as the local time switches to DST would not be present if the time was stored as local time instead of UTC. Is there such an option in dtcm ? With best wishes, Edmond Orignac ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Subversion Kills Productivity.
