Yes, implementing this as an IOSetting is the best idea. It is more difficult to distinguish between different types of properties... Will need to think about how to convert this into abstract concepts and a clean design... For now, I would much appreciate if you could file a feature request, or a bug report, whatever you feel appropriate.
