Since I am new to Bioclipse and CDK, I was asked to interview myself:
What am I working on ? I am currently doing my Phd in at the IWR in Jeremy Smith's group. My main interest are phosphoryl-transfer in enzymes using QM or QM/MM methods (keywords: Charmm, Turbomol, dftb, etc.) and conformational changes using network approaches (keyword: transition networks). Why am I interested in Bioclipse/CDK ? Well, first I am interested in Bioclipse and CDK because of my field of work. Second because of my believe, that the level of quality and productiveness that has been reached with the Eclipse Platform and its integrative force to attract all kinds of contributors, should be extended towards science. Now that I've said that, reality in science is quite the opposite and I don't even know where to start complaining. I am convinced, that to extend the RCP and create some kind of open source suite offering an integrated set of tools which cover the complete lifecycle of bio/chemoinformatics is the only way to go. Work, especially in the form of program code is probably lost sooner or later if one doesn't use state of the art techniques like Java or "ideas" as the Eclipse platform, which implicitly produce well documented, highly maintainable and flexible solutions. That's why at some point I want to contribute or extend projects like CDK or Bioclipse. How do I want to contribute? Where is my technical expertise ? At the moment I think it is best to get familiar with both projects, carefully follow the mailing lists and not start messing with your CVS right away. While I try to get a better idea of how I would like to contribute, I am looking forward to join discussions, or answer questions. I have very dusted quality C++ knowledge, am better in Python and pretty good in Java. I am very experienced using Eclipse in its incarnation as IDE, although I have little experience in writing Plugins or RCP applications. I deal sometimes with SWT, although my real expertise lies in Swing. For the sake of completeness I guess I should mention my involvement as developer with SWTSwing (http://swtswing.sourceforge.net) and also my own project "Eclipse on Swing" (http://eos.sourceforge.net/index.html). Since you are using Swing based Views in Bioclipse, perhaps one day it might become interesting.
