Hi all,

I have uploaded version 10 of the CDK-JChemPaint patch to SourceForge
yesterday...

FAQ
--------

* What is CDK-JChemPaint?

First, CDK-JChemPaint is not the JChemPaint applet; it is the new core
rendering and controller framework developed as patch to the CDK 1.3.x
branch.

* What JChemPaint should I be using??

Depends on your situation. If you like to use the applet, go for the
current JChemPaint 3.x series.

* How do I use the CDK-JChemPaint patch?

If you are merely interested in using this patch, download the .jar
binary from SourceForge. Version 10 jar requires the CDK 1.3.5 jar.
You can find some details in my blog:

http://chem-bla-ics.blogspot.com/search?q=cdk-jchempaint

The scripts in that blog series can be found in this GitHub
repository: http://github.com/egonw/groovy-jcp

* Where can I ask questions?

Please check the email archives of the cdk-jchempa...@lists.sf.net
mailing list first:

http://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/cdk-jchempaint

But if anything is not explained, or anything otherwise, please use
this mailing list.

* Where is the new JChemPaint Architecture used?

It currently is used at least in the JChemPaint 3.x applet series,
Bioclipse 2.x series, and in the OpenOffice.org Chemistry plugin.

* Is the applet using CDK-JChemPaint 10?

No, not yet. The people in Uppsala and at the EBI are continuously
working on integrating the work, but the two branches are not fully
synchronized yet. Help integrating the two branches is much
appreciated.

* Who developed CDK-JChemPaint 10?

The CDK-JChemPaint is developed by people at the EBI (Stefan, Mark)
and in Uppsala (Egon, Arvid), contains innovative work from Niels Out
who worked during the ProgrammeerZomer on the new design, and several
other developers submitted a number of patches.

* When will CDK-JChemPaint be merged into the CDK 1.3.x series?

The first parts are already merged into CDK 1.3.x; that involves the
patches to the existing CDK library. The rest of the patch is split up
in a number of modules: the renderer design, the controller design,
implementations of these designs aimed at the IAtomContainer and
IChemModel, as well as bridges to SWT and Swing widget sets. Each of
these modules will be separately provided as patch to the CDK library.
The two design modules are up next, but still lack JavaDoc, unit
tests, and must undergo some further refactoring.

In short, it very much depends on the amount of work we can soon put
into the patch.

Grtz,

Egon
