All in favour of the suggested change(s). With modern refactoring and AI coding tools available to all of us, the required code changes should be manageable.
Kind regards,

Dear CDK users,
We have plans in place for a large set of updates for CDK in v3.0. This update will include a large restructuring/simplification of the modules and many API breaking changes. One thing I have floated with Egon this morning is we also ditch the "org.openscience.cdk" package.
The https://openscience.org/ website is (was) run by Dan Gezelter who is not currently active in the project, with the last mention of CDK being 15 years ago. When we registered with Maven central this caused a slight delay to confirm we were allowed to use this domain name for our packages/modules since there didn't seem to be any link to the project. We still have permission to use the package name from Dan.
Given the above and large incoming changes, it might be useful to change the package group id to signal large changes (i.e. JUnit 5). This morning I registered http://emistry.ch (which redirects to CDK GitHub) and would allow us to have rather nifty the Java package/Maven module groupId "ch.emistry". There is a long history with "org.openscience.cdk" but I think it's a nice time (v3.0) to change and would like to see how people feel about moving to this package name.
