Chris,

The logos and other OOo art can be obtained from the Art project at http://marketing.openoffice.org/art/ . However, I think you need to be an approved Community Distributor AND request permission from [EMAIL PROTECTED] . See the "Banner and Logo Use" section of http://www.openoffice.org/about_us/OEM_and_CD.html for more details.

Thanks for your reply, but this is very confusing and frustrating.

OK, so I can distribute CDs. Fine. I do.

What is an "approved Community Distributor"? Does that require something special? I thought I had applied to be one, but got no response.

Is there a list of "approived Community Distributors" anywhere?

I've emailed the address above requesting permission to use the logos.

As I understand it (and I may be wrong, it has been known ;-) ) anyone can download and redistribute CDs, either for free, or for a fee. However, OOo's reputation is at stake, and therefore the Community try, via the instructions on the site, to ensure that people are responsible about doing this, which is why you're asked to subscribe to various mailing lists and ask for permission to distribute and/or use the OOo logos.

The "Approved Community Distributor" list (AFAIK) is the list accessed through the CD-Rom link on the homepage. Your email requesting permission to distribute prompts the page maintainer to check out if you're legit and, if so, list you on that page.

Bear in mind though that most who do this work are unpaid volunteers, members of the "OOo Community", and AFAIK there is only Alex...

...who maintains the page. The fact that you didn't get a response as quickly as you would like may mean that he is on holiday, or ill, or just hasn't had the time to read and/or reply to emails recently. I'm sure he will reply when he gets chance. In the mean time, I think you will be fine distributing CDs and/or using official logos to promote OOo :-)

Hope this clarifies things a bit.

Regards,
James
