Hi Steven,

Depending on where you live (as in which Country), there may be a
Community Distributor who could send you OpenOffice.org on a CD for a
nominal fee (small fee). The word processor in OpenOffice .org is called
OpenOfficeWriter, whereas "Word" is a trademark of Microsoft.
OpenOffice.org is highly compatible with MS Word.

The whole program would come to on disk, and you could decide how much
of it you want to install, but OpenOffice.org is not available as
standalone components.The main three which may be of value to you are:
Writer, Calc (spreadsheet), and Impress (similar to Powerpoint).
