Sorry I haven't got straight back to you, but have been trying to emulate
your problems on a spare machine of mine.
For those monitoring this thread, we have exchanged full details of the pc
involved by 'secure mail' for obvious reasons.
The only conclusions so far were that the disc you acquired (2.2.1) was
faulty, and/or there was a problem with the Java in your machine.
As promised there are now copies of 2.3 and 2.4 on their way to you, and I
await further communications.
