  I believe that if all = after the first (unescaped) = were taken as
literal it would be functional and unambiguous. Thus, only = in the new
(iso) filesystem need be esacped:

  foo/=my/foo=dumbname          iso: foo         dir: my/foo=dumbname
  really\=dumb/=other=name      iso: really=dumb dir: other=name

  Any way, I'm happy that you are addressing the problem, and I'm sure
that there will be a good way to handle even the dumbest names.
