As there was a very vivid response to my former problems I had with
the most recent Red Hat distribution I thought you might be interested
to know the sequel.
Cdrecord in RedHat 7.0 is evidently broken. I had to reinstall the
system again
and experienced similar problems as before (cdrecord couldn't
communicate with
the cd-writer). Simple recompilation from sources was enough to fix it.
