Well, dangerous isn't the same as "doesn't work," so make your own
choices on that. My feeling is that the chances are better that this
will work in a new (2.4.0) kernel than a stable kernel, because new
fixes are getting in faster. Of cxourse new bugs, as well.

I think the chances of getting the applications to read each other's
format are lower than finding something in Linux which will read both. I
wouldn't bet on writing Nero, I assume that it gives some advantage over
DirectCD.
I'm told that (a) DVD-ROM works fine, and (b) that it uses packet
writing. My source will be out of the area until next year, so I can't
ask if that means UDF is used. The point here is that the packet writing
stuff may well be functional, and you might want to test it (and let us
know if you do!).
