Creative CD-RW RW8438E

Hi,

I recently purchased a Creative CD-RW RW8438E (Model MK4214).  I am able to 
recognize the disk under linux (using ide-scsi), but not able to burn CDs.  
cdrecord fails with a few scsi errors.  Has anybody successfully used this 
writer or should I return it back?
