With due respect to everyone, and speaking not towards anyone,
but just in general:
WTF does "tar" have to do with CD burning in any way shape or
form? PLEASE CAN THE DISCUSSION ON TAR or take it to private
mail. GNU tar may or may not be conformant to anything, may or
may not be useful for anything, and any other version of tar may
or may not be useful as well. tar and/or cpio and/or zip may or
may not suck/work great, be standards compliant/or not, or may
explode when looked at.
Either way, it has nothing to do with the purpose of this mailing
list, and NOBODY is going to convince anyone to change their
minds about their own opinions on ANY of this.
Jeorg has his own reasons for using whatever version of tar he
likes, and it seems to work fine so I don't see a problem with
what tar he uses.
We can talk about how much tar sucks all we want but it isn't
going to change a single thing. Or is it now a general forum for
discussion of things that suck and break standards?
Microsoft sucks. Internet Explorer implements non-standard HTML
extensions and perverts HTML to its own whims. Don't use
Internet explorer to view the web or outlook to read this mailing
list.
Come on people, lets let this thing DIE. It is totally pointless
waste of EVERYONE's limited time in the day.
