My Yamaha 4416S has a similar problem, it can read CD-ROM and Audio CDs
but it can not burn CD-R media. It can, however, still burn most CD-RW
media. I didn't test if it can actually read CD-R's, it definitly
ruined CD-R's when I tried to burn them. My drive was replaced by a
Yamaha 8824S a few months ago which has other problems.
Conclusion: no more Yamaha CD burners...
