But it's pretty near.
I don't know what Trenton means by:
1) "automatically appear"
2) "a computer"
Speculations to 1 - assuming "appear" means displayed on a monitor:
a) A window (modal/non-modal) dialog is opened somewhere on the screen showing the CD
content.
b) A filemanager(-like) window will be opened with the track names of the inserted
Audio CD.
c) A program (e.g. a CD player) is started from which you can select audio tracks.
d) The track names will be printed onto your text console (shell) like "You have mail."
Speculations to 2 - assuming it's a desktop computer:
a) He has some U*X machine:
i) Some daemon which polls the CD drive is running and will do one from 1a - 1d.
ii) No daemon is running - he failes, or has to install a daemon.
b) He has a Mac:
i) At least until MacOS 8 audio CDs are handled just like a harddisk by the finder.
You have a CD folder icon and when you open it there are files `Track 1', `Track
2', etc.
A CD player application will be opened when you double-click on one of these.
But no track names are displayed.
ii) I don't know later versions of MacOS
c) He runs Gates-ware:
I don't know anything of that.
d) There may be other OSes which also support audio CDs. BeOS, etc.
And the final question is what software supports CD-TEXT and does this his unknown
computer?
If not, is he able to update his CDDB database if CDDB is supported by his CD-player
program?
And all these questions haven't touched the capabilities of his CD-writer.
If it's able to write CD-TEXT and how he can accomplish this.
Kind regards
Carsten
