It's my understanding that even 80-minute discs are pushing right up against
the limits of the Red Book spec. The linear track velocity, and the
inter-track pitch, are down at the minimum limits of what Red Book specifies,
and the diameter of the outermost spiral is as high as permitted.
I suspect that discs whose recordable capacity is above about 83 minutes
are not technically compliant with Red Book, and that a fair number
of audio CD players might have difficulty tracking them due to the
tight track pitch.
