Exactly. The linux dump utility comes from the same BSD sources as
the Free/Open/NetBSD dump, and I'd say they share 80% of the code.

The Linux dump was adapted to work with ext2/3 filesystems, and
many new features and bug fixes were added.

In theory (let me emphasise on _theory_), one could compile the
Linux dump on *BSD again with the proper defines in the Makefiles.
But since I've never done it, I really doubt it will still compile...
(I'm talking about the ufs routines, compiling the Linux dump for 
use on *BSD with ext2 filesystem should just work...).
