Hello,

I am trying to setup cdrecord with remote rscsi. Both the server and
client have Debian unstable, and I have sucessfully setup ssh/rsh to use
Hostbased authentication (using version 1, which I made the default).
I hope someone on the list might be able to give me a suggestion as to
what I'm doing wrong! ;) I looked for archives on lists.debian.org, but
I couldn't find them.

In the listings below, the server is atelier, the client is spunky.

For example, the following works:

spunky:~$ rsh -l rscsi atelier
test
E0
Garbage command
0
Connection to atelier closed.

Which tells me that I'm sucessfully connecting to rscsi, correct?

However, if I try the following, it fails:

spunky:~$ cdrecord dev=REMOTE:atelier -scanbus -vv -VV -dd
dev: REMOTE:atelier speed: -1 fs: -1
Cdrecord 1.10 (i686-pc-linux-gnu) Copyright (C) 1995-2001 J?rg Schilling
TOC Type: 1 = CD-ROM
scsidev: 'REMOTE:atelier'
devname: 'REMOTE:atelier'
scsibus: -1 target: -1 lun: -1
scg__open(REMOTE:atelier) -1,-1,-1
Warning: Using remote SCSI interface.
cdrecord: locuser: 'pardsbane' rscsiuser: 'pardsbane' host: 'atelier'
rcmd: socket: m
cdrecord: Permission denied. Cannot get connection to remote host.
Cannot open SCSI driver.
cdrecord: For possible targets try 'cdrecord -scanbus'. Make sure you
are root.
spunky:~$

If I try the same steps as root, rather than as a regular user, I get
the same result, except that instead of:

rcmd: socket: m

the system stalls for about 1 minute, then prints:

atelier.offthehill.net: Connection refused

All other messages are exactly the same regardless of whether I am root
or a regular user.

Thanks again, I appreciate any help somene might be able to give.

-Joshua
