Hello. As some of you may remember, I posted this problem a while back. I've been burning CD's in Linux ever since 2.2.14. Back then I was using Slackware 7.1 and cdrecord ~1.10a09 to burn CD's on my Yamaha 8424SZ. Everything worked beautifully. I even ran SETI@home while ripping and burning.
I then got a Plextor 12/10/32S and, about the same time, SuSE Linux 7.2 PRO which comes with 2.4.4. Both the cdrecord that came with SuSE (1.9) and my own (1.11a0*) would _lock_ my Linux system entirely. No CTRL+ALT+DEL, no ALT+F*, just RESET. This happened often enough to get me worried. Well, now I'm using 2.4.14 with cdrecord 1.11a09 and the problem still exists. I've even tried using 2.4.14 with Robert Love's preemptive patches. This only happens when burning CD's, not when ripping them (which is weird because ripping puts a larger load on my system than burning). It even once froze blanking a CDRW! I'm thinking it's the shoddy linux 2.4 VM. I don't think my system is being overloaded (cdrecord only uses 40% of my RAM and I used to run SETI@home on this machine while burning). I will soon try 2.2.20 (I have to re-format because 2.2.X doesn't support 3.5.X format reiserfs partitions) and cdrtools 1.11a10 (it came out ~2 hours ago). Any other suggestions?
