The big problem is that people want features added to the OS which
belong as applications.

I think you're saying Solaris has had a bug which caused it to grab a CD
unasked, and there was no documentation for eight years on how to
prevent this?

This is not a base OS service, this is a behaviour which can easily be
provided by several applications to work the way the user wishes, and it
no more belongs in the OS than a program to play music when a user gets
mail.
