You might want to look at my test "files" patch at:

ftp://ftp.ge.ucl.ac.uk/pub/mkhfs/testing/

Included in the patch is an option currently called -lstat (should really be
called something like -path-links) that makes mkisofs not resolve symbolic
links when given as a pathspec.

It's quite a simple addition to the code - I probably submit it separately
for inclusion in to mkisofs...
