Question is for what do you need the .inf files? cdrecord works very
fine without them. 
The info that is in the .inf files (like indexes) cannot generated
from a given wav-file anyway.

The only reason I can think about them useful with external wav files
are indeed title and artist information. 

X-CD-Roast 0.98alpha10  - available soon - will do that for you nicely.

It does generate .inf files with title/information from cddb or entered
manually for all your wav-files.
