I personally like running cdrecord and mkisofs by hand since they do exactly what I want and what I ask for, and I find the interface much simpler and more convinient to work with. I also think any interface that requires moving between the keyboard and mouse a lot, is inefficient, which is why I don't run X much, and when I do I stick to a window manager setup to allow keyboard navigation of most things.
