Hi all, in the past time, the music mafia started to create more and more coasters in CD shape.....
Although these disks look like a CD, they are no CDs. They are heavily violating the red book standard, they do not have the sound quality and durability of a real CD. >From Philips Quality ensurance rules, they would have to be detroyed in the faftory because they have a high number of uncorrectable read errors. Because these disks are not red book compliant, it is pure luck if they play in a red book compliant player like a Home Audio player, DVD player, Car Hifi or PC player. The typical method to create limited payability is based on defective multi session TOC information. As most newer players support multi session, these players are irritated by the broken TOC data. For about a year, Plxtor allows to switch their writers into a single session only mode to avoid the problems described above. Unfortunately, Plextor did not supply me with the needed programming information. Now thanks to a user who did run a Logic Analyzer on the SCSI commands, I know how most of the code works and a new program is ready for testing: ftp://ftp.fokus.gmd.de/pub/unix/cdrecord/alpha/ms-i586-pc-linux-gnu Call: ms dev=b,t,l -ss to switch to Single Session ms dev=b,t,l -ms to switch back to multi Session Jrg EMail:[EMAIL PROTECTED] (home) Jrg Schilling D-13353 Berlin [EMAIL PROTECTED] (uni) If you don't have iso-8859-1 [EMAIL PROTECTED] (work) chars I am J"org Schilling URL: http://www.fokus.gmd.de/usr/schilling ftp://ftp.fokus.gmd.de/pub/unix -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
