Hi: I have a new computer that I installed Linux on and I can't get CDs to burn successfully. Here is the output from cdrecord -scanbus

The machine is about as close to a high-end workstation as it could be.
(2.8 GHz P4, 1G PC3200 SDRAM, Shuttle AS45GT Motherboard (SIS 648
chipset), 80G Maxtor ATA133 disk w/ 8MB buffer) It has RedHat Linux 8.0
with all updates installed (kernel version 2.4.18-19.8). I had the
failures with the cdrecord version Redhat ships, so I downloaded and
built v2.0, but the errors still occur. I actually have bought 6 of
these machines, and have tried 3 of them so far. I get these errors on
all of the machines. Can anyone help me with this problem? Can anyonw
explain what the error messages mean? Can anyone explain why cdrecord
turns off the Burn-Free feature? While cdrecord is running, the CPU
never goes over 5% utilization, and the writing speed gets steadily
faster as the writing moves to the outside of the disk (as I would
expect) Here is a sample cdrecord session (I've even tried it at 4X
speed, no difference was noted):
