This seems to be good hope...

This is not always true.

The problem is that there is no unique method that allows to set up DMA
for all transport implementations and there are plety of them because there 
is no coordination for a unique API.

If people try to start working on a decent unique ABI, Linus Torvalds usually
blocks them :-(
