Is the myth that Linux can't handle files over 2GB still alive? Perhaps the application was compiled without support for large files... I don't recall seeing largefile support in any of the cdrtools build, but I certainly never looked for it, either.

There may be a limit of 2GB in an isofs mount, I have no way to test that which doesn't involve creating and burning a DVD.
