I've been using growisofs for some time, but the last couple of spindles
I have had seem to be 8 speed media. I am experiencing slow burning with
this media, as the Plextor708A I have tries to write at 6x, which does
not seem to work that well. It starts off slowish (~3.0x), but does not
take up speed at all. At some point, progression dies off and the drive
stops burning, hanging growisofs (unkillable, probably in some systemcall).
I read that 5.17 has -speed support for +R media, so I compiled this
(FreeBSD 5.1) but setting speed fails. I've googled a bit, and other
people seem to be experiencing it also.
The firmware of the drive was 1.02, so I just upgraded it to 1.06
(latest from the Plextor website), but to no avail.
Here's what happens:
