Hi, if i had the problem which you report i would try to compile successively older versions of cdrtools/cdrecord and look wether the problem persists. There is a comprehensive collection of them at ftp://ftp.berlios.de/pub/cdrecord/
(I could provide you with a statically linked cdrecord-1.6 binary of 1999 which still works with a CD recorder of 2003.
