I was using nautilus-cd-burner to do the burning, which seems to create the iso itself, and then call growisofs with that iso, and in the debug log, it calls growisofs with: growisofs -dvd-compat -use-the-force-luke=tty -Z /dev/hdc=/tmp/image.iso.Q11JAK Which seems to imply that it is already using an iso.
