I know this problem from the "OSS"-cdrecord version included in rescue system RIP-14.4. It does only happen with my LG DVD/CD burner but not with my LITE-ON CD burner. The cdrecord-prodvd-2.01b31-i686-pc-linux-gnu binary which i use for research purposes (:), can blank 4x and 12x media on both burners under RIP-14.4. It depends on the CD era wether 4x CD is considered ultra speed :)) BTW: libburn is able to blank under RIP on both burners, too. http://icculus.org/burn/releases/libburn-0.2.tar.gz (./configure, make, test/blank If you only got one writer or are lucky then test/blank will try the intended device. Else you need to edit test/blank.c and set a drive number other then 0. Obtain drive list by test/devices .)
