cdrskin is not a clone of cdrecord. It is an emulator which provides the capabilities of libburn via a command line interface that is compatible to cdrecord's. It also issues some typical cdrecord messages which frontends might expect and evaluate. Under that thin surface it is completely independent of cdrecord.
