FULL-TIME LECTURER & ASSISTANT DEBATE COACH CAL POLY SAN LUIS OBISPO POSITION: Full-time Lecturer and Assistant Debate Coach at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, California for the 2007-2008 academic year (with possible renewal for the 2008-2009 academic year). Beginning date is September 10, 2007. Duties and responsibilities include teaching fundamentals of speech communication, public speaking, argument and advocacy and forensic activity (debate). Debate coaching duties include recruiting novice debaters, coaching, judging, and tournament travel. Cal Poly Debate is a regionally active policy debate program, with an enrollment of 20-30 tournament debaters, many of whom are new to the activity. Teaching load is 12 units per quarter (3 courses) plus 3 units of assigned time for debate coaching duties. Except for maintaining office hours and debate program activities, no other committee work or duties outside the classroom are required.
QUALIFICATIONS: A Master's degree in the discipline of communication studies at the time of hiring is required as the minimum academic preparation. University teaching and forensics experience is required. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Position is contingent upon funding.
