The National Association for Urban Debate Leagues (NAUDL) is seeking an Executive Director with strong enthusiasm, leadership, development ability, and organizational skills to lead a rapidly growing nationwide not-for-profit organization. The NAUDL assists local school systems and community supporters to establish and develop competitive academic debating leagues for youth in economically-disadvantaged urban areas. The NAUDL identifies local supporters, catalyzes local commitment, provides a roadmap and basic materials, and guides the development process for league organization. The NAUDL also galvanizes national support, promotes cooperation between individual leagues, facilitates quality improvement, and intervenes to revitalize struggling leagues as an ongoing activity. Although effectively only two years old, the NAUDL has marshaled a highly-experienced staff and is on its way to approaching $1 million in annual support.
The Executive Director has responsibility for the entire enterprise, and reports to an engaged Board of Directors. He/she will be compensated commensurate with their experience. Qualified candidates must have a university bachelor’s degree or more advanced degree, strong interpersonal skills, an entrepreneurial spirit, a well-developed spirit of professionalism, and experience in not-for-profit organizational management. Experience in urban education or competitive debate is preferred, and experience with the operations of debating leagues is desirable. A strong candidate would have demonstrated the ability to devise effective organizational strategies; inspire supporters, employees, and public observers to embrace those strategies; refine and grow a young organization; and develop talented staff as a cohesive unit. The candidate should have the flexibility to work effectively on a peer-to-peer basis with a variety of organizational cultures, including business, not-for-profit, education, and government environments, and to elicit their mutual cooperation for the benefit of underprivileged youth. The candidate should also project a strong sense of client service and integrity. Interested candidates should contact Leonard A. Gail at 312-472-8101 or email [EMAIL PROTECTED] by October 15, 2007. The new Executive Director will be in place by January 1, 2008. -- Ross K.
